The Crystal Myth: Debunking Common Misconceptions

If you’ve been scrolling through any holistic blog or the witch side of Tik Tok lately, you’ve probably seen healing crystals and stones all over the place. However, with so many different beliefs and opinions on how to best connect with these gemstones, it can be hard to know what’s true and what’s not.

Size Equality

Healing crystals are all the rage these days, attracting spiritual healers, New Age enthusiasts, and even celebrities. Whether you’ve stumbled into a whimsical crystal shop or onto the witch side of Tik Tok, there’s no doubt these beautiful gems are having a moment in the spotlight. Some even attempt to explain how crystals can help manage anxiety.

However, some misconceptions are arising that confine the vast spectrum of crystal energy to a few deemed “healing.” The truth is that every crystal has the potential to offer healing, no matter its size or appearance.

Power Equality

Power equality is the idea that all citizens have equal power to determine the fundamental rules governing their political community. This idea is a core tenet of many egalitarian ideologies and an important foundation for a democratic society. It also is an underlying assumption behind many of our legal, economic, and political theories. It’s also the premise behind the Equal Rights Amendment in our constitution.

However, this theory has some flaws that undermine its validity. For one, the equality of power does not imply that all people are the same. In fact, it’s more realistic to say that people have different innate energies and frequencies. These differences can cause a person to have more or less energy than another, which affects their ability to make decisions and interact with others.

Another reason why the equality of power myth is flawed is that it fails to acknowledge that power is a largely gendered concept. Men typically understand power as getting someone else to do something you want them to do, whereas women more often see their role in the world as building capacity with the people around them. Gender shapes how we understand the concept of power and how it can be used to oppress people.

In addition, the equality of power myth fails to address the fact that a person’s basic equal moral standing does not necessarily require an equally distributed distribution of power. For example, a plural voting scheme is not a violation of anyone’s equal basic standing to express superior political judgment if it tracks their superior moral judgment over that of other people.

The last big problem with the equality of power myth is that it conflates equality with exploitation. It presumes that employers will always have to pay competitive wages, which ignores the reality of systemic racism and sexism in the workplace. It also ignores the fact that employer power allows them to exploit workers by limiting freedoms outside of work such as free speech.

The Equal Status View is flawed for these reasons. It assumes that equal power is the defining feature of equality and that it is not possible to achieve equal status without it. This is wrong because equality of power is morally significant in its own right, independent of equal status. Equal power is a requirement of democratic society, but unequal distributions of power can still be morally objectionable if they violate citizens’ equal basic moral standing.

Combination Equality

There is no such thing as a healing crystal that’s more powerful than another. The power of a crystal lies in its resonance with the user and the intentions set forth. While some crystals may be more effective at balancing the chakras, each has a unique energy that’s incredibly beneficial to your personal journey. This is why you see Heidi Klum and Spencer Pratt filling up their homes with crystals and using them in their everyday lives — they’re embracing the power of each crystal’s energy to align their bodies, minds, and spirits.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that there is a magic crystal combination that’ll cure all your ailments. But the truth is, it’s not so simple. The only way to get the most out of your crystals is by debunking these common myths so that you can harness their full healing potential. The more you know, the better you’ll feel — and the more your crystals will do their magic.
